ABL's Senior Structural Engineers design, analyze, and test the propellant and pressurant tanks, thrust structures, and fairings that make the backbone of the rocket.
In addition to being individual contributors with exceptional design and analytical skills, Senior Structural Engineers guide the team along a path to a cohesive structural design that is robust, and easy to manufacture and integrate.
Perform design and analysis of vehicle primary and secondary structures, considering manufacturing and operational constraints
Develop, analyze, and review data to validate and verify the structural design meets specifications and design requirements
Partner with GNC engineers and loads team to iterate between structural and GNC limits working towards system level optimum of the primary structure capability
Work with loads and dynamics teams to define static, dynamic and modal analysis
Develop factors of safety for ground and flight loads
Manage key vendor interfaces and requirements, including key characteristics and quality inspections
B.S. in any engineering discipline from an accredited university
6+ years of industry experience in a production, integration & test, or design role
Demonstrated ability utilizing CAD design software (e.g. NX, CATIA, CREO/PRO-E)
Demonstrated analysis capability using hand-calcs as well as finite element analysis (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN)
Knowledge of the design, analysis, fabrication, and test of metallic structures
Strong drafting and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) skills
Aerospace hardware design and development
Writing and executing test procedures for complex hardware operations
Technical writing and communication including test plans and design reviews
The Senior Structural Engineer must be willing to travel to launch and test sites to support integration and test work, especially on first-article products.
